Who is an Essential Care Giver – Every Resident in England is now able to have an ECG

Jul 27, 2021 | Resources & Templates

Government guidance was updated on 16th July 2021, from this date every resident in England is able to have an ESSENTIAL CARE GIVER

This role is very important, as it will allow the ECG to continue visiting, during periods of isolation and Lockdowns,

As cases begin to rise in the community and outbreaks in care homes increase, we will inevitably see restrictions on visits and 14-day isolation periods will be imposed and in the case of a Variant of concern 28 days isolation. For this reason, it is imperative to act now and ensure your loved one has a nominated ECG that can visit even during outbreaks / quarantine or while isolating after admission from home / hospital etc.  ECGs are allowed to visit more frequently and have closer contact than regular visitors:

Help us end isolation for care home residentsSupport “Gloria’s Law”

As the Ambassador for Rights for Residents, West End performer Ruthie Henshall is campaigning for “Gloria’s Law”, in memory of her mother who passed away this year, after witnessing her decline from the other side of a care home window.

If passed this would ensure every resident has the legally enforced right to the support of an essential visitor, who could support them in all circumstances.
