We were outraged to read the response the DHSC gave to our petition on behalf of the Health Minister, Sajid Javid and Minister for Care Gillian Keegan. It was completely lacking in empathy for the thousands of residents who remain isolated, lonely and forcibly separated from their families.
The Government continue to deny the reality which is that their guidance to care homes is not working. Contrary to their claims – the guidance is not ensuring vulnerable residents receive the emotional support and companionship they have identified as “essential”
They also fail to explain why those living in care settings continue to have their human right to a family life denied, while all others in society continue to enjoy unrestricted and unlimited freedom.
